National Policy and Economic Affairs Deputy Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva held dicussions with UNICEF’s South Asian and Sri Lankan team led by Tim Sutton at UNICEF headquarters in New York recently and agreed on the proposed 2018-2022 program for Sri Lanka.

The program proposal will now go to the UNICEF Board in September and hopefully be approved, Dr. de Silva’s office stated.

The program will focus on early childhood programs to get kids into preschool programs, middle childhood issues with respect to quality and relevance of education and adolescent issues on ensuring access to achieve full potential and deal with violence against kids.

The incidence of physical and sexual violation of children is too high and stands at around 15%, the Deputy Minister noted in a statement.
