Muslim Progressive Front General Secretary and former MP and Minister A.H.M. Azwer has called for the resignation of all Muslim MPs in the Government if they cannot resolve the problems faced by the community countrywide.

Following is the statement issued by Azwer.

It is sort of an acrobatic dance that the Muslim Ministers and MPs in the Government are performing today by blaming the President and Prime Minister for not taking stern action to control the present attacks on Muslim mosques and business places by certain anti-social elements.

This looks funny since it was these same gentlemen who carried on a virulent attack on the Rajapaksa regime alleging that that the Government was responsible for anti-Muslim activities, and got the votes of Muslims (as they say 95%) to put Yahapalanaya in power.

So, it is so simple that they should demand from the President and the Prime Minister to take immediate action to stop the attack on mosques, madrasas and business places by certain rabid communal elements.

If they are suggesting, as all Tamil dailies claim, that the top is turning a blind eye, then they are morally duty bound to abandon the Yayapalanaya immediately en masse and join hands with Mahinda Rajapaksa, come to an understanding with him and chart out a course of action for the future welfare of the Muslim community in the Government that he would form in the not-too-distant future. They mislead the Muslims – by orchestrating the Alutgama incident in all platforms, and made the Muslim believe that they would enjoy peace under the new regime. Far from it, the Muslims are made to live in fear and trepidation in villages, forcing them to ask for police protection to their places, bringing into mind the horrendous acts carried out by the Tigers for 30 years.

Let not the Muslim Parliamentarians in the Government continue to play Nero’s fiddle while Rome is burning.
