Cabinet takes decision to import rice

The Cabinet has collectively decided to grant the private sector permission to import rice from abroad, owing to the rapid rise in the prices of rice in the domestic market.

The exact quantity to be imported will reportedly be decided by the ad hoc committee within the Cabinet which deals with the nation’s cost of living.

The decision was made with the aim of provide rice to consumers at a convenient cost without putting local farmers at a disadvantage.
