Gracing the Vesak day celebration organised by the Maha Bodhi Viharaya in New Delhi, Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Faiszer Musthapha said that anyone could see national reconciliation in practice during the Vesak season since India has this year collaborated with Sri Lanka to celebrate the event.Faiszer-Musthapha-640x400-copy

Addressing the gathering, Musthapha said bilateral relationships made between Sri Lanka and India had a great history.

“We are proud of that history. As Sri Lankans we should appreciate the great assistance given by India in developing the socioeconomic status of our country. With the coming of the Yahapalana Government we have made our bond with India much stronger,” he said.

Musthapha added that the present Government did not support any idea or activity which spread racism.

“Several individuals tried to create different problems within the post-war period of Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan community suffered from the cruelty of war for about 30 years. Such a community will never want to experience the same so that they are living in harmony. We can see that reconciliation among the community is being developed. As a Government we are humbly proud of it,” he said.

“The international Vesak festival is very important for all Sri Lankans. All the people work together to celebrate this holy event. This is a special occasion where we can see that national reconciliation is practically socialised,” he asserted.
