Startup Weekend: Ready to shakeup Negombo, Silicon Beach from 19-21 May

Startup Weekend is an international initiative that supports entrepreneurs around the world by coaching and mentoring their business ideas and thereby ensuring entrepreneurial success. This community is widely considered by many to be the largest collective of entrepreneurs in the world, with more than 1,800 events held in 190 different countries connecting more than 190,000 people across borders. Sri Lanka Startup Weekend now comes into its third iteration with the Negombo meetup scheduled this May. 

Organised by a set of challenging entrepreneurs, from the breakthrough event in Jaffna followed by the roaring success of Colombo and Vanni, now Startup Weekend heads to the sunny shores of Negombo. This ground breaking event will be held at the Paradise Beach Hotel, 289 Lewis Place, Negombo, commencing from 19 to 21 May. As the name implies, it is an event held throughout a weekend where potential entrepreneurs introduce themselves with their ideas and eventually form a team that will help startup their business and is open for interested parties to explore and engage and offers an in depth insight and guidance into the Startup scene in 2017.

Looking back at the first steps: The feedback from attendees of the inaugural Startup Weekend Jaffna showed that insights into the Startup culture and advice on how one can forge their own path proved invaluable. The event helped budding entrepreneurs network with key figures in the industry, forge new partnerships and gain a big picture perspective of the Startup landscape. 

One of its renowned peers Sachindra Samararatne mentioned on the previously held events that, “It’s the technology startups of today that will pave the path for Sri Lanka to become a digital economy tomorrow.” The amount of networking at this event is exceptional and offers a higher degree of tailored interaction. Attendees can approach clients and pitch their idea to potential investors. The grand finale, which is scheduled to take place on the last day of the weekend, is a competition where teams will pitch their business idea to a panel of judges. The best teams will be crowned as the winners of Startup Weekend Negombo.”
