Workshop for media: ‘Sustainable Tourism for Development’

Workshop for the media personnel under the theme ‘Tourism Promotion on Sustainable Tourism for Development’ was held at the Senate Hall, University of Colombo recently.

This workshop was jointly organised by the Journalism Diploma Holders Organisation (JDHO) of the University of Colombo and the Alumni Association of Tourism Economics and Hospitality Management (AATEHM) of the University of Colombo in collaboration with Sri Lanka Tourism.

The major purpose of organising this workshop was to provide contemporary knowledge on the recent trends and patterns of tourism development under the UNWTO Theme of Year 2017: Sustainable Tourism for Development. The contents of this workshop were focused to educate and empower the media personnel for the recent trends and patterns of tourism development in Sri Lanka under the context of UNWTO Theme of Year 2017. 

Head of the Department of Economic University of Colombo Prof. Ven. W. Wimalaratna Thera, Project Coordinator of Tourism Study Programs, Course Coordinator and Founder of Tourism Study Programs Department of Economics Dr. D.A.C. Suranga Silva , Development of Economics University of Colombo B.B. Sumith, Chairman of Sathosa Dr. Rohantha Athukorale, Senior Lecturer of SLIT and Event Coordinator of Tourism Industry Programs Department of Economics UOC Kasun Abeynayake, Secretary of the Journalism Diploma Holders Organisation Marshad Barry, President of JDHO Rajitha Senanayake and many leading industry experts, representatives from key industry associations, policy makers, researchers and academics addressed the workshop.

Dr. D.A.C. Suranga Silva presented tokens of appreciation for the lecturers and certificates were distributed to media personnel participants at the workshop. 

On behalf of the Journalism Diploma Holders Organisation Senior Treasurer Prof. Kamal Waleboda proposed the vote of thanks.
