Lanka Hospitals unveils Laser Eye Surgery Unit

The new Lasik Laser Eye Surgery Unit of Lanka Hospitals was recently opened by Lanka Hospitals Chairman Dr. Sarath Paranavitane and Venerable Thiniyawala PalithThero, Member of the Board of Directors, Group Chief Executive Officer and the management.       

The Laser Eye Surgery unit is a much needed hope for individuals affected by short-sightedness, far-sightedness and astigmatism, who do not like the hassle of wearing glasses and contact lenses. It is a 20-minute procedure for both eyes, carried out as an out-patient. The eye is anesthetised using eye drops and the patient does not feel pain during the procedure. 

LASIK (Laser In Situ Keratomileusis) uses a laser to reshape the cornea. During the procedure the eye surgeon first creates a precise, thin corneal flap using a microkeratome. The flap is then pulled back to expose underlying corneal tissue. Then the eye surgeon uses laser to reshape the cornea in a unique pre-specified pattern for each patient. The flap is then gently repositioned onto the underlying cornea, without sutures. Reshaped cornea corrects your vision.
