The publisher of leading business magazine LMD, Media Services, has announced that the 2017 special edition of the Brands Annual will be released to supermarkets and bookstores later this week. DFT-1

Published in collaboration with the UK-based Brand Finance, the all-encompassing special issue features Sri Lanka’s most valuable brands, in addition to the ‘most loved brands’ in the country and leaders in other categories such as conglomerates, exporters and multinationals.

Compiled by Brand Finance, the top 10 amongst the ‘listed brands’ are familiar names that include Bank of Ceylon, Dialog, People’s Bank and Commercial Bank. Sri Lanka’s most valuable brand, BOC, is valued at nearly Rs. 40.6 billion with a rating of ‘AA’.

Media Services’ Foreword in the Brands Annual notes: “Sri Lanka’s 10 most valuable brands are worth in excess of Rs. 250 billion combined, which is nearly 6% higher than 2016.”

It adds: “In the 2015/16 edition of the LMD 100, Media Services’ version of the Fortune 500, the nation’s 10 leading listed companies’ total tangible assets stood at 2,524 billion rupees. Indeed, there’s a powerful case for intangible assets to make an appearance on the balance sheets of big business if they’re worth nearly 10% of the sum, as in this example.”
