Skal Colombo holds 63rd AGM

01Skal International Colombo held its 63rd AGM at the Ramada Colombo recently. Sk Dushy Jayaweera from Hemas Air Services, the incumbent President was reelected as President uncontested for a second year with Sk. Bernard Wijetunge from Mackinnons American Express Travel Services, reelected as the Vice President and Zahara Mufti of Tallman Tours being reelected as Secretary for another year.

Two minutes silence was observed at the start of the proceedings for the recent passing away of Wing Cdr Noel Fernando, a longstanding member of 38 years and a Past President of Skal International Colombo.

The AGM was followed by the monthly luncheon meeting where Sk. Nirmalan Nagendra made a presentation on ‘2020 – are we geared for it?’ Three new members, Nadira Munasinghe, Robert Douglas and Young Skal Darrell Corera were inducted as members of Skal International Colombo. Another feature of the event was the awarding of Skal Esteem Awards to members who had completed 25 years of continuous membership and long standing members Fawmy Cader, Bertie Wickremapala and Tissa Molligoda received their awards while the late Wing Cdr Noel Fernando’s award was accepted by his brother Wing Cdr Wimal Fernando.

Skal International is a Worldwide Association of Travel and Tourism Professionals, foundered in 1934 and headquartered in Torremolinos, Spain with a current membership of over 15,000 members in 400 clubs in 87 countries. Skal International Colombo was founded in 1954 and consists of senior management of hotels, airlines, travel agencies and destination management companies.
