SriLankan Airlines celebrated its return to all-day operations at its hub, Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), yesterday by serving all passengers who arrived on the first flight of the day with traditional Sri Lankan milk rice and sweetmeats.
SriLankan’s CEO Capt. Suren Ratwatte, the crew of the aircraft and other senior officials of the airline joined in the celebration with the passengers, who arrived from the southern Indian city of Trivandrum on a state-of-the-art Airbus A320neo, the latest aircraft in SriLankan’s modern fleet.
BIA had been partially closed for eight hours per day over the last three months while its runway underwent resurfacing. With the completion of this project, the airport returns to 24-hour operation with immediate effect.
Sri Lanka’s national carrier SriLankan Airlines will start its new daily flight schedule between Muscat and Colombo from 7 April.
The flight will depart Colombo at 7.20 p.m. and arrive in Muscat at 9.55 p.m. It will depart Muscat at 11.05 p.m. and arrive in Colombo at 4.55 am. The frequency is being increased from five times a week to a flight every day of the week.
“We are thrilled to launch daily operations between Oman and Sri Lanka. This will give our customers increased connectivity,” said SriLankan Airlines Country Manager Deepal Pallegangoda.
SriLankan Airlines will also increase frequencies to India this summer by starting flights to Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Gaya and Varanasi from 17 July.
SriLankan Airlines will resume normal operations throughout its global route network from 7 April, following the resumption of full services at Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), which had been partially closed for three months while its runway underwent resurfacing.
