Mövenpick Hotel Colombo rolls out Robata Grill and Lounge

The newest addition to the city’s dining scene, Mövenpick Hotel Colombo’s dedicated Japanese restaurant is now open. Conquer the gastronomic nirvana of Japan with the Robata Grill and Lounge. The casual yet modern kid on the block – this is a place to drink and watch the chefs on the open charcoal grill in the evenings, a concept derived from the Japanese Izakaya, a unique aspect in town that has been recognised for centuries as the best grill construction. Chef Nobu brings in his expertise with carefully crafted sushi and a wide selection of bento lunch boxes for your tasting pleasure.

Head Chef Noboru Ozeki, who has previously thrilled and enthralled guests worldwide, joins Mövenpick Hotel Colombo with over 25 years of experience. Having earned his early skills in Tokyo, he then travelled the world, developing these skills further in Hawaii, India and the Philippines together with Iron Chef Morimoto during his gastronomical journey. Chef Nobu has previously worked with the Leela Ambience Gurgaon Hotel and Residences, The Taj Mahal Hotel (Wasabi by Morimoto), the Sofitel Philippines and Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hawaii to name a few.

The experience 

Take the glass elevator to the second floor and allow time to drink in the surroundings. The sultry furnishing turns heads before you’ve even looked at the menu. Relax in the lounge area with a cocktail or seasonal sake. The comprehensive and satisfying menu offers classic Japanese fare including sashimi, sushi, tempura and the perfect miso soup. 

The Robata Grill is where the action takes places with the freshest fish, poultry, meat and vegetables, combined and crafted into delicious dishes, served in its elegant dining space by unfailingly polite, attentive staff. Guests can choose between single sushi options, multiple pieces and delicious ala carte dishes. 

A bracing mouthful of the assorted sashimi is available including Akami and Hamachi alongside impressive appetisers. Sake pairing is done particularly well and all dishes are made using fresh seasonal ingredients.
