Govt. to fine dog dumpers

Cabinet has approved a proposal to increase the fine on the owners of dogs dumped on the street, the Government information department said today.

The Government said that the Registration of Dogs Ordinance No. 25 of 1901 will be amended to address difficulties faced by the public due to stray dogs.

Accordingly, a proposal made by Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Faiszer Musthapa to instruct the Legal Draftsman to amend the ordinance to make provisions to increase the fine on owners of dogs dumped on the street to Rs. 25,000 and the imprisonment to two years, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
