Sri Lanka Navy and US Navy conduct medical camp in Matara

The Sri Lankan Navy together with the US Navy conducted a medical camp at the Dutch Hospital in Matara on 16 March. The event was organised by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for the Matara District Mangala Samaraweera and the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Atul Keshap, together with the participation of Sri Lankan and US naval personnel under the ‘Pacific Partnership 2017’.

The event was attended by a large number of people in Matara and they were able to consult Sri Lankan and US naval medical personnel on various health issues. Medicine was distributed among the patients on a complimentary basis.

Pacific Partnership is the largest annual multilateral humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness mission conducted in the Indo-Asia-Pacific and aims to enhance regional coordination in areas such as medical readiness and preparedness for manmade and natural disasters.

United States Navy’s expeditionary fast transport ship ‘USNS Fall River’ of the US Pacific Command arrived in Sri Lanka on 7 March in Hambantota. Marine personnel from USA, Australia and Japan were on board to take part in the Pacific Partnership mission. 

The Pacific Partnership mission in Sri Lanka will continue through 18 March.
