As the world’s most progressive accountancy body, ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) with its powerful global presence within the profession, has inspired many of its members and students towards greater success and prosperity in their careers.

Comprising of a curriculum that incorporates seven skill areas essential to the evolving finance profession such as technical and ethical skills, intelligence, creativity, digital knowledge, emotional intelligence, vision and practical experience, ACCA has carved a niche for themselves as a qualification that encompasses technical excellence and strong ethical grounding, supplemented with the personal skills and qualities that enables students to fit into any industry across the world.

The choice of high achievers: Therefore many high achievers today look to ACCA as their ideal qualification of choice. This year, high achievers who chose ACCA included the student with the island’s 2nd best results in the commerce stream, Vindula Perera from St. Joseph’s College Colombo and the student with the island’s 4th best results in the other stream, Vinethri Piyadasa from Museaus College.

Joining Mercury Institute of Management, the only platinum accredited ACCA tuition provider in Sri Lanka, both Vindula and Vinethri enthusiastically outlined their plans in preparing for success in their future careers.

ACCA – Not just another accountancy qualification: Vindula Perera is a go-getter with a host of leadership qualities, having been a College Senior Prefect, a choir leader, and a part of the NCC under-15 team which toured Bangalore in 2011.

With an ambition to assume a leadership role in his profession as a CEO of a top blue chip company, Vindula wanted to accelerate into his career by gaining a globally recognised qualification that would place him amongst the best finance professionals in the world. Commencing his search for the ideal qualification that matched his criteria, even before receiving his advanced level results, Vindula was duly impressed with the ACCA qualification which he outlined as ‘not just another accountancy qualification’ but one that has an evolving and diverse curriculum which provides the skills and flexibility to work in an industry of his choice, in any part of the world.

Speaking about his experience of studying for the ACCA qualification at Mercury Vindula said, “They certainly epitomise their position of being the only platinum accredited ACCA tuition provider in the country. The lecturers are very knowledgeable in every area of the syllabus and their training on facing exams is really great.”

Vinethri who had set her sights on forging a career in finance and having perused the many options available in market, said she was drawn  to ACCA due to its global recognition and employability. ACCA she says is the right fit for her due to its in depth coverage of finance subjects. In the longer-term she sees many new opportunities opening up in her future career with the ACCA qualification.

Having chosen Mercury since it had come highly recommend as the best place to study the ACCA qualification, Vinethri says that the institute truly demonstrated and lived up to its reputation and supported her with personalised attention, the right study guides and past exam papers to complete her studies successfully.

Training high achievers: Mercury Managing Director Jeevith Shakespeare expressed his thoughts: “We have been instrumental in nurturing some of the country’s best young talent by utilising our expertise to make them into finance professionals who are well equipped to handle the future challenges of the industry with confidence and we hope to do the same for these two outstanding students.”

A benchmark in quality and professional relevance: ACCA Sri Lanka Head Nilusha Ranasinghe commented, “This is a perfect example of ‘quality meeting quality’ where top students choose a globally recognised finance qualification to gear themselves for top global careers.

“ACCA has always strived in designing a qualification that enables students to achieve greater heights and be at the forefront of the profession. Our qualification has local relevance coupled with international best practice, offering the complete blend of technical and ethical accounting competencies mixed with strategic leadership and professional skills. This is why ACCA members have become leaders, trusted expert counsel and key strategic advisers to organisations in every industry, sector and country in the world.
