Imperial College of Business Studies (ICBS), currently one of the prominent education providers in the country, with a rapidly growing student population for its suit of qualifications, now offers the prestigious MBA from University of the West Scotland (UWS), the newest addition to their portfolio of globally accredited degrees.

ICBS Group Director Operations Shanmugam Sivabaskaran outlined their aim in bringing this qualification to Sri Lanka, their affiliation with UWS and benefits offered to students.

“We have been conducting the BA (Hons) International Business and Finance degree within the School of Business and Enterprise at the University of the West of Scotland that offers the unique opportunity for students to progresses towards dual qualifications that include both academic and professional and gives exemption for professional qualification such as ACCA an CIMA. The popularity and success we had in the market with this degree made us realise that it would make sense to offer the MBA from the same university. We pursued this objective and went through the rigorous process that Scottish universities demand to enable us to deliver this MBA to our local students.”

He added, “One of the many facets that make this qualification unique is that Scottish universities are very choosy about offering their degrees and demand a very high criterion from both the tuition provider and the student. Whilst this makes it a rather difficult qualification to obtain due to its diligent, meticulous and stringent standards, it also gives it exclusivity, differentiating it from others in the market for being a high calibre, advanced and quality driven qualification. This in turn will give those who attain it a definite edge over others. Scottish qualifications are also held in high esteem amongst employers both locally and globally.” Sivabaskaran explained that the top tier MBA’s within the first 40 in ranking required a very high cost which was not within reach of many Sri Lankans. This meant that students in Sri Lanka had the financial capability of studying for the upper middle level MBA’s. The UWS MBA aptly fitted into this criteria being ranked at 68 for Business and Management Studies and ranked at 47 for Accounting and Finance. The curriculum and subject content of the MBA, is structured to provide essential core business knowledge with a strong emphasis on developing the applied managerial skills that are nurtured and enhanced, using a variety of methods. The modules are assessed through a variety of techniques including examinations, reports, presentations and projects.

An eminent panel of academics and professionals including senior professors, doctorates, university lecturers and industry experts conduct the program, giving both theoretical and practical aspects of the subjects, keeping the academic standards on par with the UWS requirements. A key differentiator was that classes would be conducted in a digital environment, encouraging active learning, knowledge construction, inquiry, and exploration on the part of the learners.

Other facilities provided, include agreements with many of the leading banks in the country, offering students flexible payment options. ICBS also offers students all study material and text books as a part of the cost of the MBA. Classes at ICBS are very versatile, offering Sunday and weekday evening classes as well the option to block mode learning.

With a proven track record of many years of experience in professional education and numerous prize-winners, ICBS hopes to make a mark in the area of delivering quality MBA education to the Sri Lankan market.
