CAA sets Maximum Retail Prices on five essential commodities

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) imposed Maximum Retail Prices on five essential commodities - Mysore dhal, sugar, potatoes, green gram and imported sprats - with effect from midnight on 27 January.

The maximum retail price for a kilogramme of Mysore dhal has been set at Rs. 159 while a kilogramme of white sugar can be sold at a maximum price of Rs. 93.

The maximum retail price of a kilogramme of potatoes is Rs. 115 and a kilogramme of green gram is set at Rs. 205.

The CAA said a kilogramme of sprats imported from Thailand can be sold at Rs. 490 while sprats imported from Dubai could be sold at Rs.405. The Consumer Affairs Authority, which comes under the purview of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, is the apex government organisation mandated to protect consumers’ interests and ensure fair market competition in Sri Lanka.
