Maharaja Palace receives ‘Food Safety Award’

Situated in the heart of Colombo 7, Maharaja Palace is an elegantly built Indian restaurant specialising in Northern Indian cuisine. Over the years this venue has stood out as a family-friendly dining space where diners can enjoy a good meal with their loved ones. 

Recently, the Maharaja Palace bagged the prestigious A* Award of Excellence in recognition of its food safety and hygiene. The criteria for this award include kitchen hygiene, food safety and the standard of food which is awarded by the Public Health Department. 

The space can accommodate 150 people and it also includes a catering service known as the ‘Maharaja Home Service’ for weddings, parties and any outdoor function. 

The quality and taste of its food has been a highlight for customers with expert chefs from India doing their magic behind the scenes. The team led by Executive Chef Mohamed Abubakar has worked tirelessly to make it a favourite premier Indian restaurant in Sri Lanka. The architecture is inspired by rich Indian cultural heritage and this is quite visible when looking at its furniture and paintings which add colour to the walls. 

Chef Abubakar said that not many people know of this restaurant. “Some are deceived by its elegant structure and think that it is quite expensive. But actually it’s not. We have always ensured quality food with reasonable prices. Feedback from customers is quite valuable for us to improve.”

On the first floor there are private rooms that could accommodate eight people and a lounge area. Family and private functions are usually held in this location since it gives some privacy for the customers.
