The prestigious organisation, Richmond College Union Colombo, the Colombo-based old boys association of Richmond, celebrated one hundred years of existence in 2016.

The series of events started with a ‘Richmond Walk’ in Galle and culminated in a banquet held at Hilton Colombo with the Prime Minister being the chief guest.

The program of the day consisted of many events, including the felicitation of those who have rendered services to this union since its inception in 1916.  ‘Centenary Scholarship Scheme’, one of the most significant projects initiated in 2016, was officially launched on this occasion by presenting an award to the best outstanding student at Richmond in 2016.

A well compiled book on the history of this union was launched and the first copy was presented to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe by the incumbent President of the Union Vipul Hettige. To mark this historic milestone, a commemorative stamp was issued with the participation of Prime Minister, Minister of Education and the office bearers of the union.

A short video clip illustrating the ‘Glorious Richmond heritage’ was   screened, awakening the nostalgic memories of yesteryear.

Many distinguished old boys of Richmond, including Eastern Province Governor Austin Fernando, were in attendance. The event was complemented by traditional dance items performed by Kulasiri Budawatta dancing troupe and the gathering were entertained by the ‘Gypsies’.
