President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday requested all private institutions to go frugal with respect to use of electricity by switching off lights used for advertising and decoration purposes.

The President pointed out that the country may face a power crisis in the future due to the drought situation in the country and therefore it is the responsibility of all to use power in an economical manner from now.

A huge amount of power is utilised for advertising boards and other decorative electrical systems used by private institutions at nights, and by limiting this usage, a significant amount of power could be saved, the President pointed out. He requested everyone to support the initiative of frugal use of power until the rains begin.
