Human rights chief notes positive steps taken in Sri Lanka

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein noted the positive steps taken in Sri Lanka on the human rights front.

Al Hussein had talks with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Switzerland.

At the meeting Al Hussein said the UN Human Rights Council hopes Sri Lanka can take forward a process which ensures the rights of all communities, the Prime Minister’s office said.

He also noted that it is important for Sri Lanka to heal the hearts of those affected by the war.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said the Government will ensure the rights of all communities are protected. (Colombo Gazette)
