Iran, Sri Lanka hope to remove financial obligations on way of bilateral corporation

Teheran: Iran and Sri Lanka expressed hope that the remaining financial obstacles on the way of bilateral cooperation will be removed and the two countries would expand bilateral relations further.

Meeting with visiting Sri Lanka’s Minister of Science, Technology and Research Susil Premajayantha on Sunday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said based on its foreign policies Iran attaches importance to expansion of relations with the Asian countries including Sri Lanka in high regard.

Zarif noted the long-standing friendly ties between the two countries and expressed hope that the remaining financial obstacles on the way of bilateral cooperation will be removed, then the two countries would witness further relations more than ever.

Sri Lankan Minister expressing satisfaction over Iran’s positive point of view on his country, hoped that the two sides would widen energy cooperation after removal of the small hindrances to that way.

Minister Premajayantha, who is visiting Iran at the invitation of Vice-President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari, said his country is after buying Iran’s oil as before.

During the meeting, Zarif noted the lift of international anti-Iranian sanctions following the implementation of the nuclear deal, and expressed hope for further development of bilateral ties with the removal of the remaining financial obstacles affecting Iran-Sri Lanka’s relations.

The senior Sri Lankan official further extended to Zarif the message of President Maithripala Sirisena addressed to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
