President Cup Inter-School Soccer Tournament kicks off

The opening ceremony of the President Cup Inter-School Soccer Tournament was held at Race Course Grounds on Saturday 7 January. Minister of Mass Media Gayantha Karunathilake was the Chief Guest at the event.

Hameed Al Husseinie College beat St. Benedict’s College 2-1 in the opening match. A.I.M. Sajid and Afzal Ahmed from Hameed Al Hussenie College scored their school’s two goals and Nishon Deenu from St. Benedict’s College slotted in for his team.  

The captains of the two teams introduced the members of the team to the Chief Guest before the match began. 

Today Al Mubarak College will play Ananda College, Maristella College will take on Thurstan College and De Mazenod College will go up against Kalutara Muslim Central College at the City League Grounds in Colombo.

Colombo District Parliamentarian Mujeebur Rahuman, Chairman of I Deals Lanka Ltd, the main sponsors of the tournament, Mohamed Rifkan, Hameed Al Husseinie College Principal M.S.M. Faizal and Sri Lanka Football Federation Secretary Balendra Anthony were present at the opening ceremony.
