Working towards lasting solution to national question: Sampanthan

With expectations for a political solution for the national question, Opposition Leader R. Sampanthan called 2017 a crucial year for the country. 

“Our expectation, is that we should find a permanent and lasting solution to the national question. The new Constitution in the New Year should bring about this achievement,” Sampanthan said in his New Year greeting. 

The Leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) called on people of all communities to work beyond differences.

“While acknowledging diversity in our communities in several aspects, my appeal to all the people in this country is that we should strive hard to not let such diversity become a barrier to building a prosperous and peaceful country for our future generations,” he said. 

He also called on all political parties, religious leaders, civil society and communities to work together to ensure that the country takes advantage of the “golden opportunity in the coming year.”
