Roar, Sri Lanka’s new media platform, continues to realise its vision to expand globally, with Roar Tamil. This new edition delivers engaging content that focuses on current affairs, lifestyle and business to Tamil readers, both in Sri Lanka and abroad.

The current digital media landscape of Sri Lanka, while growing in the last two years, still lacks credible, high-quality content for Tamil readers. Roar Tamil was launched in September this year to fill this void. The section publishes articles and other shareable content that are of the same strong journalistic standards that Roar has been recognised for in its main and other sections. In a little over two months, Roar Tamil has drawn over 30,000 unique visitors on the website, and over 12,400 followers on Facebook.

“Roar Tamil comes at a time when there is growing online audience amongst Tamil readers in Sri Lanka, as more people have access to laptops and smartphones, and have a presence on social media,” says Roar Founder Mustafa Kassim. “Roar Tamil also reaches a large audience of Tamil readers outside Sri Lanka, especially in India, who wish to stay up-to-date with the latest ongoings in Sri Lanka and engage with content that is of universal interest, in the Tamil language.”

Roar was launched in 2014, as a platform for ‘quintessentially Sri Lankan’ social content. However, in the last year, the platform has seen immense growth, moving to a more hard-hitting, thought-provoking journalism. In addition to articles, Roar now publishes interesting videos, photo essays, cartoons and infographics. Roar also became the first Sri Lankan media platform to venture outside the country, by launching its first international edition, Roar Bangladesh, in July this year.

Roar publishes news and analysis on current affairs and business on Roar and Roar Sinhala, and lifestyle and technology-related content on Roar Life and Roar Tech, respectively.

Roar Tamil can be accessed on roartamil.com and on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/roartamil/). All sections can be accessed on www.roar.lk.
