Co-Chairman of the Management Committee of the Steering Committee of the Connotational Assembly Secretariat, UNP MP Dr. Jayampathy Wickramaratne raised a privilege issue yesterday in Parliament, having received a threatening telephone call.

Dr. Wickramaratne informed the House that a threatening telephone call would not stop his role in Constitution making. “I received a telephone call on 6 December disapproving my role in the Constitutional Assembly. The caller used filth and threatened to kill me and my family. I have lodged a complaint at the Welikada Police station. We are members of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party and will not be stopped by threats,” he said.

In response to the privilege issue raised, Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala instructed the matter to be taken up at the Committee on Privileges and a proper investigation be conducted by the Inspector General of Police. (AH)
