Omega Line Ltd., Sandalankawa a leading export oriented garment factory in Sri Lanka engaged in a massive CSR program branded as ‘Sahanodayata Dawasak’ investing over Rs. 3 million.

The company in a single day visited 34 children’s and elders’ homes in Western and North Western provinces to provide inmates with their requirements with entertainment.

The program was spearheaded by Omega Line Ltd. Director Felix A. Fernando. The company identified 24 Children’s’ Homes and 10 Elders’ Homes in the 50 kilometres vicinity in Sandalankawa and surveyed requirements of those places prior to launching the program. Omega Line employees volunteered to do the surveys and to provide labour for the CSR program.

On requests made by the managements of selected children’s and elders’ homes; dry ration, sweets, clothing, school uniforms, bed sheets, stationary, school books, medicine, water filters, refrigerators, washing machines, mosquito nets, electric bulbs, serviettes, mattresses, shoes, reading material, toys, steel cupboards, cleaning material, gas cookers and cash were donated by the Omega Line company.

In addition Omega Line employees colour washed premises of these needy people, cleaned their gardens and washed their linen. Their active involvement signified the occasion.

Omega Line employees comprising 2,500 as 34 teams engaged in this noble cause. They spent all-day-long with inmates of the respective children’s and elders homes and offered them with gifts bought from their own money. Omega Line Company provided lunch and tea for all the inmates.

Fernando said, “Sahanodayata Dawasak is the first CSR program done by the Omega Line Company. All employees of the company dedicated themselves to find the locations of children’s and elders’ homes and to launch the program. Some of these places were in the vicinities where our employees live. The feedback they have derived while visiting these places has been touching. Inmates of these Children’s and Elders homes have told, donators often vanish soon after making their donations. Thus we spent the whole day with them talking and having sing-song sessions which were so touching.”

Omega Line Ltd. Sandalankawa Human Resources Manager Sampath Weerakoon said, “At certain occasions majority of employees fail to attend entertainment activities organised by the company. Yet almost all Omega Line employees attended ‘Sahanodayata Dawasak’ CSR program enthusiastically keeping all other private work aside. Even after the program our employees have visited these children’s and elders’ homes during weekends to talk to inmates. This was the outcome we expected from ‘Sahanodayata Dawasak’ CSR program as a socially responsible company. Omega Line will take this trend forward.”
