Fashion Bug’s career guidance program at Galle concludes on high note

In a continuous drive to enhance knowledge in career options after school, Fashion Bug, one of Sri Lanka’s leading retail clothing chains with over 16 outlets island-wide, together with the Vocational Training Centre of Galle, held a career guidance program at Galle for students who recently took up the GCE Advanced Level examination this year. More than 4,000 students participated.

The resource person for this workshop was University of Colombo Career Guidance and Development Director Ajith Jayawardana. Minister of Provincial Education (Southern Province) Chandima Rasaputra participated for a special lecture whilst Vocational Training Center of Galle Director Prabath Balasoorya and Additional District Secretary Malani Lokupothagama addressed the gathering.

“We are delighted to recently have held our island-wide career guidance program at Galle with an impressive number of participation from students in that area. It is very encouraging to see the enthusiasm among these students and providing the right guidance to them is a responsibility in every society,” said Fashion Bug Director and Sisu Dirimaga Foundation Founder Shabier Subian. “We hope to initiate many more island-wide and better the thinking quality of career options.”

Fashion Bug Deputy General Manager Dr. S.H.M Faraaz, Human Resource and Development Manager Namal Ekanayaka, Senior Marketing Executive Ishan Godamanna and Area Manager Mohomed Rasheed were present at the event on behalf of Fashion Bug.

The company recently also initiated its own scholarship program as part of its signature CSR program Sisu Dirimaga Foundation with ambitious plans for the future. Additionally, it also introduced the first ever peer counselling program to school children which will continue in all districts in the year 2016 in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, said Dr. Faraaz.

Fashion Bug spends in millions annually on various CSR projects that are carried out throughout the country, ranging from sports and education through to health, public services and beyond. Most recently it constructed and donated a building unit for a junior school in the rural, initiated environmental awareness programs, refurbished post offices and hospitals amongst many others. 

Sisu Dirimaga, an award winning CSR program by Fashion Bug, has successfully benefitted over 12,000 students as of today, and continues all the way till it achieves its goal of spreading amongst 120 schools and over 100,000 students across the country.
