Remembering M.H.M. Ashraff

The 16th memorial event of the passing away of a great leader and founding Leader of SLMC M.H.M. Ashraff organised by Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Ashraff Research Academy, who gave identity to a lost community in independent Sri Lanka, was held recently at the Nelum Pokuna, Colombo 7 under the patronage of SLMC Leader and Minister Rauff Hakeem.

This was followed by ‘Al-Quran in Appealing Expressions’, a Qirat (Al-Quran recital) evening and awards ceremony for the winners at the all-island Qirath (recital) competition held earlier this month. Both events were held under the aegis of Hakeem. Many local and international theological scholars, diplomats from UAE, Pakistan, Turkey and Palestine and Parliamentarians were among those who participated at the event.

The Late M.H.M. Ashraff Memorial Speech was delivered by Prof. Deen Mohamed from Qatar University. Al Quran recitals winners received eight grams of gold and a Rs. 50 thousand cash award.
