UNDP, UNCTAD, ICC, Norway speakers at CIMC 2016

Speakers from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Maldives joined by 50 speakers from 20 other countries

The second Colombo International Maritime Week and Colombo International Maritime Conference (CIMC), beginning on 21 September, will see the attendance of more than 60 international speakers. 

To add further colour to the event, many international organisations, foreign embassies and High Commissions have launched initiatives supporting the CIMC, which is now recognised as the biggest South Asian shipping conference.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will highlight the UN’s initiatives towards realising its sustainable development goals and map out how the shipping, maritime and logistics industries can help achieve these goals; the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will discuss its latest review report on maritime and transport; Norway will talk about maritime ecology in building a maritime nation; while the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) will highlight the areas of support extended to harmonise international trade and transport. 

In addition to the SAARC maritime nations, China, Singapore, Malaysia, the US, the UK, Japan, Dubai, South Africa, Seychelles, Reunion Island, Kenya, France, Germany, Hong Kong and Norway will provide experienced speakers from different disciplines in international trade, transport and logistics for CIMC 2016.

‘Island in the ocean of opportunity - Unleashing Sri Lanka’s potential for investors and service providers in the maritime industry’ will be the pre-CIMC launch topic that will be rolled out by Mercmarine Group of Companies, Sri Lanka CEO Thomas Kriwat.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will be the Chief Guest on 22 September for the Colombo International Maritime Conference and is expected to deliver his keynote address on the Sri Lankan maritime industry’s vision, its opportunities and the way forward, along with the Government’s strategy.
