tpt-photo-4The past hockey players of Trinity College, St. Peter’s College and S. Thomas’ College have joined together to organise a seven-a-side hockey tournament. All three schools have played the game for decades and have produced many who have gone on to don the Sri Lanka jersey.

The TPT Hockey Carnival is organised to develop hockey and maintain strong ties between the three schools by functioning as a reunion and get-together.

The TPT Hockey Carnival is an annual event alternately hosted by one of the organising schools. St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya will be hosting the carnival this year. The inaugural tournament was hosted by S. Thomas’ College last September.

As a social responsibility project, the event will also see one player from each school sponsored through the purchase of his hockey equipment. 2

Food, beverages and recreational stalls for families and children of the Old Boys have been organised to make it a fun-filled family event.

The tournament will be conducted in five age categories, namely the Under-15 and First XI teams and the 20-30, 30-40 and 40 and Over age categories. This year the TPT Committee is introducing the Under-15 age group for all three schools. At this year’s carnival hockey players from the three schools who are Over 40 will be rewinding the hands of time.  Challenge shields will be presented to the winners from each age category. Mario Joseph and Godwin Solomons from St. Peter’s College have donated the 20-30 age group shield while the 30-40 age group challenge shield will be contributed by the Old Trinitians Sports Club (OTSC) and the Over-40 challenge shield will be provided by Dr. Sarath de Alwis-Seneviratne in memory of his father.

The special TPT champion and runner-up trophies have been donated by the past hockey players of all three schools and will be presented to the Under-15 and First XI winning teams along with certificates.

The opening ceremony will be graced by the Vice Rector of St. Peter’s College and the Old Boys Association President or Secretary at 8.30 a.m. The chief guests for the closing ceremony, which has been scheduled for 5.30 p.m., will be the heads of the three schools.
