7-star Achilleion to power 7-star Captain Angelo Mathews

Known as Captain ‘Marvel’, Angelo Mathews lead his young Sri Lankan unit to a remarkable historic win as they whitewashed Australia, the number one test side this week. This was the first time that Sri Lanka managed to whitewash a major test side in the history of the game.

As the young Sri Lankan team takes on the Australians’ in the ODI’s and T20, the 7 star captain Angelo Mathews partners with Blue Mountain Apartments – Achilleion, proudly bearing the Achilleion logo on his bat during the much anticipated shorter format of the game.  

Mathews, the 13th player to captain Sri Lanka caught the world’s attention with his outstanding fielding during the ICC World T-20 in England in 2009. Mathew’s magnificent match winning 77* runs with a partnership with Lasith Malinga (highest ninth wicket partnership in ODI history by scoring 132 runs) in the Sri Lankan tour of Australia in 2010/11, his back-to-back centuries against England at Lord’s and Headingley to seal Sri Lanka’s first-ever Test series win in England are some his most memorable achievements.

Year 2014 was the limelight of Mathew’s captaincy, where Sri Lanka won many bilateral ODI series and also the 2014 Asia Cup. That year, he became the most successful ODI captain with 20 wins out of 32 matches and 62.50% of winning percentage. Angelo also was the first player to achieve the double feat of scoring 1,000 runs each in Tests and ODIs in one calendar year for year 2014 as a result he was named captain of ICC Test Team of the Year.
