National policy on durable solutions for conflict-affected

 A national policy has prepared with stakeholder input to provide sustainable solutions for people displaced from the ethnic conflict has been approved by the Cabinet.  

Relevant ministries, national, provincial and district level stakeholders, UN agencies, Civil Society Organisations, and displaced communities have been consulted in this regard, a Cabinet statement said on Wednesday.

“It demonstrates the Government’s commitment to rebuilding the lives of displaced families on a rights-based approach,” the statement said.

Affirming a durable solution goes beyond resettlement and it includes provision of protection, housing, water, sanitation and healthcare, primary education, a good living standard, and access to livelihood, it added.

Also the displaced should be socialised without any discrimination based on their gender, ethnicity, age, language, political opinion, religion, caste and living place, according to the new policy.

 The proposal made by, Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs D. M. Swaminathan to accept the above policy was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
