A group of army personnel led by Movement of National War Heroes and Weera Lanka Foundation yesterday demanded the Government withdraw the Office of Missing Person (OMP) Bill, by staging a “satyagraha” in front of the National War Memorial in Parliament complex, Battaramulla.

They displayed placards charging that the Government intends to witch hunt war heroes and is seeking reconciliation to please western powers, and claimed the enactment of the OMP Act would betray the sovereignty of Sri Lanka.

Members of the Patriotic Bhikkhu Front led by its General Secretary Bengamuwe NalakaThero read out a pledge to protect war heroes from the alleged hunting of the OMP Act. Joint Opposition MPs Udaya Gammanpila, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Gamini Lokuge, Bandula Gunawardane and Sisira Jayakody were seen at the “satyagraha.”
