Quiz Team

The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) UK Sri Lanka Branch successfully conducted its Quiz Challenge 2016 for the third year in succession on Sunday 7 August at The Kingsbury Hotel Colombo.

A total of 29 teams took part in this quiz for which the questions were compiled by Ruwan Senanayake, International Quizzing Associations’ Country Representative for Sri Lanka. 

Some questions included visuals and video clips too which made it an interesting experience to everyone who was there to witness the event.

Team ‘Invitus’ led by Hasini Minuwanpitiya, emerged the overall winners and were presented the CMI Quiz Challenge Trophy, certificates and a cash award of Rs. 100,000. Her team included Kasun Pathirage, Lakshmi Radhakrishnana, Gayani Minuwanpitiya and Ranuka Dharmaratne as the other members.

Hasini Minuwanpitiya, incidentally, was the best female quizzer in Sri Lanka at the World Quizzing Chammpionships worked out in June.

The second placed team was Kasun Bandara Ekanayake’s, who had Akila Abesinghe, Kasun Jayakody, Chamath Kayakody and Charudaththta Ekanayake as his team members.

They also received an attractive trophy, certificates and a cash prize of Rs. 75,000.

The 3rd place honours went to Shehan Kumar’s team comprising Pramod de Silva, Dulantha De Silva, Asela Olupeliyawa and Gihan Indraguptha and they received Rs. 50,000 as prize money and certificates of excellence.

In 4th place was Dialog A team while the 5th placed team was 99X Technology.

They were presented with cash awards of Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 25,000 respectively (and also certificates) while the sector winners were recognised with attractive trophies.

Dialog Axiata A team won the top honours in the Mercantile sector and 99 X Technology emerged the top team in the IT and BPO Sector.  

DFCC Bank team lead by Nalin Karunathileka emerged as the best among them for the second consecutive year. Other teams in this sector were from People’s Bank, Seylan Bank (two teams), Standard Chartered Bank, Pan Asia Bank and HSBC.

As was done during the past, CMI Sri Lanka Branch presented certificates of participation to all those who took part in this year’s quiz too.
