TMC Mt Lavinia has organised a panel discussion on a subject that is much spoken about but little known or understood – ‘What is Cyber Crime? Does it impact us and how do we mitigate these cyber attacks?’

This informal sessions and perhaps not so technical is to educate both the membership and public about the billion dollar cyber crimes that are constantly happening globally and how it could impact Sri Lankan corporates and the Government of Sri Lanka. The session could provide an insight to threats local companies face without their knowledge and how so called hackers steal important data silently.

Eminent speakers will form a panel that will discuss the importance of securing valuable data and information relevant to organisations and in the first instance, debate whose responsibility it would be to secure such data amongst their organisations or institutions. The panel will further discuss whether such responsibility should be in the hands of an IT Individual or should the Board of Directors of organisations be held responsible to ensure that data and information are extremely secure to ward off all hackers from having access to important and confidential data. The discussion will also centre on how such cyber crimes can impact individuals and organisations and ensure available preventive mechanisms are property implemented.

This panel discussion will be held on 22 September at 5:30 p.m. at the Salon Anthurium – Hotel Galadari. A fee of Rs. 1,000 will be charged to defray the cost of refreshments. Tickets will be available beginning 20 August at the TMC Desk – Suite 206, Hotel Galadari Hotel. For further inquiries, please call 5860000 or email: [email protected]
