The Gammadda initiative, launched by the News 1st/Sirasa/Shakthi Media Network, has been causing waves both in Colombo and rural villages.

The initiative that involves actually resolving people’s problems identified earlier in a home-to-home study recently kicked off across the island.

The first completed project, repairs to the Damanayaya Road in Sigirimulla, was completed and vested with the public on 3 August. The once-dilapidated road had not been repaired or maintained for over two decades and serves over 20 villages in the area.

Hundreds of villagers, members of the clergy and officials turned up at the opening ceremony that was held on the newly-repaired road.

Partnering News 1st in this particular project was Brandix Lanka Ltd.

The Gammadda 100 Day Initiative will continue in the weeks and months to come, completing projects funded solely by the public.

Bridges, libraries, roads, reverse osmosis plants and even lighthouses are just some of the projects that will be completed in the next few days.
