Chinese Ambassador calls on Mahanayake of Asgiriya Chapter

Chinese Ambassador Yi Xianliang called on Asgiriya Chapter Mahanayake Most Ven. Gnanarathana Thera in Kandy on 22 July.

Ambassador Yi expressed his congratulations to the Mahanayake on his election of the chief of the Asgiriya Chapter of Siam Nikaya. He recalled the history of Buddhist exchanges between China and Sri Lanka and appreciated the contribution of Sri Lankan Buddhist community to the development of China-Sri Lanka relations. He also invite the Mahanayake to visit China at a convenient time. The Most Venerable spoke highly of the historical bonds of Buddhism between the two countries and expressed gratitude for China’s assistance in Sri Lanka’s development. The Mahanayake said the Maha Sangha of Sri Lanka would like to strengthen exchanges with China and continuously promote bilateral relations. The Mahanayake reaffirmed the Sri Lankan Buddhist community’s adherence to the One China Policy and assured that the Sri Lankan Maha Sangha will never allow any forces to engage in acts of splitting China under the cloak of religion in Sri Lanka.

Ambassador Yi also inspected the toilet construction project of Sri Dalada Maligawa aided by China. He requested the constructor to enhance construction safety management and complete the project on time with good quality.
