Finance Minister pays courtesy call on Colombo Archbishop

Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake paid a courtesy call on His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo yesterday at the Archbishop House in Colombo.

The current economic development activities of the country were discussed during the meeting between His Eminence and Karunanayake.  At the same time, attention was drawn to the ongoing construction of housing to solve the housing problem of the shanty dwellers in the city.

The Finance Minister also explained to His Eminence about the measures that have been taken to compensate the residents of Salawa who have been affected by the recent emergency situation occurred in the Salawa Army Camp. In addition, His Eminence and the Finance Minister discussed the organising activities of the forthcoming Asian Bishops Conference to be held for the first time in Sri Lanka in next November.

The Asian Bishops Conference is scheduled to be held from 28 November to 5 December in Negombo and, over 150 Archbishops, representing the Asian region, will participate in the conference.
