Blue Diamonds gets new Chairman

Confirming a Daily FT story on Monday, Blue Diamonds Jewellery Worldwide Plc. has announced that Sudath A.S. Jayasundara has been appointed the new Chairman/Executive Independent Director of the company.

The company also announced the appointment of P. Manjaree K. Gamage as its Joint Managing Director/Executive Non-Independent Director. Former Chairman Xia Liqiang will function as the Deputy Chairman and Joint Managing Director. Additionally, Tishya Wickremesinghe has been appointed as an Executive Independent Director.

Blue also announced the resignation of G.A. Samantha Pushpakumara and Somasundaram Prabaharan.

Manjaree K. Gamage has a direct 10% stake in Blue and is the daughter of ministers Daya and Anoma Gamage, who are controlling shareholders of the Daya Group. Jayasundara is a Director on the Bimputh Finance Board which is part of the Daya Group, since February 2013. 

An Attorney-at-Law, Jayasundara holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Colombo University and also a Diploma in International Affairs from the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies. He also serves on the boards of Harischandra Mills Matara Plc, Bogawantalawa Plantations Plc, Metropolitan Resources Plc and Sithara Ltd.
