Central Bank Retired Deputy Governor Dr. Wijewardena to speak at TMC Members Meet

Trade Agreements world over has become the talking point in many political circles. Trade Agreements in Britain will also have a significant impact at the referendum to be held on 23 June on the question of Britain leaving or remaining in the European Union. By the time this article is published, the world will know the result of this referendum. Many argue that Britain on its own may not be able to continue its preferential trade agreements with its European Partners by being out of the European Union.

Across the Atlantic, the presumptive Republican Nominee for US Presidency Donald Trump has become a vociferous critic of the many trade agreements US has, which he argues has created many employment opportunities for countries elsewhere and reduced such employment opportunities within USA. 

The presumptive Democratic Nominee Hillary Clinton on the other hand has argued that trade agreements US has with various other countries must continue but be necessarily be beneficial to USA. 

In Sri Lanka today, there is some hype on the Trade Agreements in particular with India. The public perhaps is not fully aware of the benefits, advantages or disadvantages for Sri Lanka with such Trade Agreements. 

Retired Deputy Governor Dr. W.A. Wijewardena has very kindly agreed to make a presentation on the topic ‘Agreements with India and rest of the World’ which will help to convey the certainties and uncertainties of Trade Agreements with other countries.
