Mount Lavinia Hotel’s celebration of 210 years of history and colonial heritage will be made even livelier with the children’s workshops on 10 July at the unique literary event ‘Words on the Mount’.2

The day will commence with the film screening of ‘Paddington’, an adaptation of Michael Bond’s beloved books read and enjoyed by many. The film follows the lovable bear from ‘the darkest Peru’ to London, where he finds a home with the Brown family and the real adventure begins!

Famous children’s author and illustrator Nicholas Allan will conduct the workshops with the assistance of Angela Seneviratne. The series begins with ‘More and More Rabbits’ for 0 to 5 year olds, and is focused around the story of Mr. and Mrs. Tail. Rabbits will appear magically and the children get to decorate paper rabbits, out of which the best decorated will be displayed at the hotel.

For the older children, between ages 6 and 12, is the interestingly named ‘Queen’s Knickers’. Based on one of Nicholas’ much loved books, the workshop will be an opportunity to discover what happens when the Royal Knickers go missing. As for ‘budding young designers’, this is also the best time to show off their skills and design a pair of knickers to none other than the Queen herself!

The third workshop is for 13 to 17+ year olds. Learn to design your own picture book from the master himself, as he mentors the young minds to take a simple idea and turn it into an interesting story.

The grand finale will take place at the Courtyard of Mount Lavinia Hotel, where all the designs will be on display and the best design for the Queen’s Knickers will be chosen.

So much and more at Words on the Mount this July! Registration is free of charge. Simply log on to the Mount Lavinia Hotel website: www.mountlaviniahotel.com to register.
