Jerome Jayaratne appointed COO of Sri Lanka Cricket

Sri Lanka Cricket has announced the appointment of Jerome Jayaratne as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Sri Lanka Cricket. He has been invited to take on this administrative role at the Headquarters of Sri Lanka Cricket with immediate effect.

The 50 year old former seam-bowling all-rounder, Jerome Lee Jayaratne, began his career in cricket administration in 1997, when he began coaching his Alma Mater, St. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia, who went on to win one Royal-Thomian and draw three more under his tutelage. Jayaratne captained and coached the Colombo Cricket Club in 1996 having played for the CCC for 10 years, leading them to be winners of Division I Premier League Championship. Jayaratne represented Sri Lanka as a member of the under 19 team, and in 1985, a member of the Under 23 Sri Lankan National Cricket Team. His performance in the 1984 Australian Tour enabled him to sign a contract with sub-district cricket club in Melbourne.

Jayaratne, first joined Sri Lanka Cricket in 2000, and having been handpicked for a secondment at Lord’s by the ICC, returned to Sri Lanka having gained invaluable administrative expertise. The experience gained from his stint with the ICC, together with his talent and vast knowledge in the coaching sphere saw Jayarathne excel in the Coaching and Development divisions of Sri Lanka Cricket, having held the post of Head of Coaching for the past 8 years.

Jayaratne will work together with Chief Executive Officer Ashley de Silva, and will oversee the areas of Administration and Corporate Communications.
