Most sacred Buddhist relics from Taxila Pakistan to be in Moneragala

sdsdThe most sacred relics of Lord Buddha from Pakistan will be exhibited in Bookkeyagolla, Rajamaha Vihayaya, Moneragala for two days from 10-11 June.

The government of Pakistan has provided the most sacred bone relics of Lord Buddha to the Sri Lankan government for public exposition throughout the island nation for an extended period starting on Day of Vesak and concluding on Poson Poya Day. The exposition is being organised on the request of the Sri Lankan government under the bilateral cooperation agreement in the field of culture.

The sacred relics were handed over by the Pakistani authorities to the Sri Lankan side in a special ceremony held at Taxilla on 19 May.

The Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe inaugurated the exposition of the most sacred relics of Lord Buddha brought from Pakistan, in an impressive ceremony at Temple Trees on the occasion of Vesak.

The exhibition in Sri Lanka is displaying the collection of the Taxila Museum of Pakistan and comprises of four sacred artefacts/relics. These exhibits include two sacred bone relics of Lord Buddha, stone reliquary in stupa shape and a golden casket.

The relics are an invaluable part of the archaeological heritage of Pakistan and depict the rich Buddhist history of Pakistan.

The Sri Lankan public is invited to pay their respects and homage to the most holy relics.
