M. Reza clinches HSBC Challenge Trophy at 5-Club Stableford Golf Tournament

The wet weather did not seem to dampen the spirit of golf, as the HSBC 5-Club Stableford Golf Tournament kicked off on Friday, 27 and concluded on Sunday 29 May at the Royal Colombo Golf Club. Winning the HSBC Challenge trophy in 2016 was M. Reza with an overall score of 43 points. He was also the winner of the C Division with 43 points.

Winner of the Ladies division was Heoi Kyung Lee with 37 points, while Christopher Dias remained unbeaten in the Seniors category with 36 points, two years in a row. Rajeev Rajapakshe also retained his position for the second year, winning the A Division with 39 points, while Caesar Fernando became winner in the B Division with 37 points. 

In a commendable gesture of giving back to the community, overall winner of the tournament M. Reza donated his prize money to help flood victims affected by the inclement weather in the country. The money will be used to help those badly affected. 

The tournament which is held annually was open to all members of the Royal Colombo Golf Club with a valid handicap. This year saw over 225 golfers participating in the Men’s A B & C divisions, Ladies and Senior’s categories.

Celebrating the success of the HSBC 5-Club Stableford Tournament, HSBC will also hold its annual Premier Golf Tournament at Nuwara Eliya Golf Club on 10 September, which will be open to all HSBC Premier Golfers.
