Vijitha Herath arrested and released on bail

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath was released on bail after he was arrested by the Welikada Police when his vehicle crashed into a telephone post in Rajagiriya last morning. 

Police sources said they expected to file a case against Herath for allegedly damaging public property. 

Commenting on the incident after being granted bail, Herath said the accident happened due to his attempts to avoid hitting a pedestrian who suddenly tried to cross the road. He denied reports that he was drunk behind the wheel.
