Bangladesh sends flood relief to Sri Lanka

The Bangladesh Government has decided to send Taka 100 million worth of relief materials in aid of people affected by recent floods and landslides in Sri Lanka. 

In response an appeal for aid, a special flight of Bangladesh Air Force aircraft C-130 carrying the first consignment of nine tons of emergency relief materials and pieces of equipment, which include tents, bottled water, water purifiers, generators, torch lights, mosquito nets, rain coats, clothes, etc. is expected arrive on Friday afternoon at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake. 

The delegation coming with the relief materials is expected to consult with the Sri Lankan officials coordinating relief activities to assess the requirements in the coming days. Further consignments of relief materials based on the assessment are expected to come in a week or so by air and/or ship.

Earlier, immediately after the floods and the landslides in Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh sent a message of condolence to President Maithripala Sirisena on the loss of lives, property and displacement of people caused by the disaster and reaffirmed Bangladesh’s solidarity and support for the government as well as for the people of Sri Lanka.
