World Bank Executive Officers are upbeat about the political and economic changes that have taken place in Sri Lanka and supportive of extending more funding to the country, a statement from the Finance Ministry said yesterday. df

The officials had stated that positive change has come to Sri Lanka over the last year during a meeting with Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake.  

“As shown by them proper methodology has been implemented in the country to get the benefit of financial aids provided by them without irregularity,” the statement said.  

During their three-day stay in Sri Lanka they met with the President, Prime Minister and other stakeholder and reviewed the progress of the development projects implemented in the country, under World Bank assistance.

This group consists of nine Executive Officers headed by Subash Chandra, the Executive Director representing India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. This visit of World Bank group to the country after 34 years is a significance event.

Addressing the media after this discussion Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake said that the World Bank representatives are positive to extend more financial assistance towards the future development projects of Sri Lanka. This will prove that Sri Lanka has exposed to the world as a country under the governance of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, he further added.
