Society of Structural Engineers Sri Lanka (SSE-SL) organises three Structural Engineering Conclaves namely ‘Innovative Structures and Smart Buildings’, ‘Urban Structural Dynamics’ and ‘Advances in Building Material and Façade’ on 30 May, 25 July and 22 November respectively at Cinnamon Grand Hotel in addition to their other events held usually.

The main objective of these conclaves are to further the knowledge on current development of analytical methods, new innovations and new technology of Sri Lankan construction professionals.

The first Conclave, which is scheduled on 30 May is on the theme of ‘Innovative Structures and Smart Buildings’. Eminent international and local architects and engineers will participate for this conference as resource persons. They will present very appropriate topics on new concepts and technology in this conference which will be useful for Sri Lankan construction professionals in the context of present rapid development of the country.

Last year, the Society celebrated its Silver Jubilee with a commemorative International Conference on Structural Engineering with the theme ‘Towards Excellence in Structural Engineering’. Practicing engineers, university academics and other professionals in Asia, Far East and Europe participated in this two-day conference.

SSE-SL was founded in 1990 by a group of practicing engineers and academics engaged in the field of structural engineering with the intention to serve as a forum for structural engineers in Sri Lanka. The Society was incorporated by the Act No: 40 of the Parliament of Sri Lanka in 2009.

The SSE-SL has been serving the country in numerous ways. The members of the Society actively involve not only in the development activities in the country but also act as an educational and training activities to share new knowledge and experiences on various construction related topics especially on structural engineering. Further, members of the SSE-SL dynamically contribute to a number of policy formulating committees related to construction industry which were set up by well reputed institutes such as Urban Development Authority, Construction Industry Development Authority (CIDA), Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) etc.

The Society organises programs such as conferences, seminars, workshops, etc. frequently in order to create an opportunity for the structural engineers and other professionals connected with the construction industry to enhance their knowledge in planning, designs and construction of structures.
