UN Special Rapporteur meets Justice Minister

Minister for Justice Wijeydasa Rajapakse yesterday met a delegation led by United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Independence of judges and lawyers, Monica Pinto.

The meeting was held at the Buddha Sasana Ministry in Colombo.

The UN said in a statement that Senior Human Rights Advisor at the UN in Sri Lanka, Juan Ferando also accompanied the delegation. The UN Special Rapporteur on Torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, Juan E Mendez is also currently on a visit to Sri Lanka.
