India, Lanka sign MoU to gift 150 boats and fishing equipment to Mullaitivu fishermen

India and Sri Lanka yesterday signed a MoU to supply 150 boats and fishing equipment to fishermen of Mullaitivu. 

The MoU was signed at the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development by Y.K. Sinha, High Commissioner of India and W.M.M.R. Adikari, Secretary, Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development. Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, presided over the ceremony. 

The Government of India will gift 150 boats and other fishing equipment to 300 beneficiaries in Mullaitivu. The project will be implemented in consultation with the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development and relevant local authorities. The total cost of the project is Rs. 100 million.

The High Commission of India will float a tender to procure the items through a competitive bidding process.
